Garissa is 400 miles and 5 hours from Nairobi, along the road passing through Mwingi. The Tana River above the entrance to town, a hot desert region with a high concentration of Somalia. Islam has deep roots here and is the minority Christian presence. The stranger is regarded with suspicion, and should not go it alone. We spent two days a couple of years ago, in August, the period of Ramadan and fasting Muslim. In the company of a friend, I visited a school and a family composed of father, mother and a child of 6 months. A mud hut with no water, no light, no toilet. It seeks shelter behind some bushes on the need. The kindness of these people, I had dinner, led me to donate a small sum to finance the construction of a latrine. It was made in December of that year, a Christmas gift.
